So the trailer for Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes adaptation has been released, and I have to say a lot of my initial excitement has been subdued. The novel’s take place in a dark and gritty time in England, Holmes is a quiet and reserved character, Downey’s interpretation is almost too much Tony Stark in it.
Dr. Watson is more of the bumbling idiot of the two, who will state the obvious and bring a light hearted nature to the pair. It seems like Ritchie has reversed the roles, most likely to dumb down the material for a broader audience. Ritchie’s take just a bit over the top and too comical, kind of similar to the Steve Martin’s Pink Panther movies. I’ll give this a shot in theaters, but I’m certainly not excited any more after seeing that trailer.
